Each January, communities nationwide commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, emphasizing the power of collective action and service.
In Moreno Valley, this day is marked by a series of events that embody Dr. King's vision of unity and progress.
On January 20, 2025, the city hosted the 30th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Walk-A-Thon, organized by the Riverside African American Historical Society.
This event brought together leaders from Moreno Valley College, the Riverside Community College District, and the broader Inland Empire community to celebrate unity and service.
Participants walked from the Stratton Community Center to the Riverside Public Library, honoring Dr. King's enduring legacy.
Interim President FeRita Carter of Moreno Valley College remarked, "The annual walk-a-thon is a meaningful way to engage with the community and honor Dr. King's legacy."
In addition to the walk-a-thon, the Moreno Valley City Council recognized January 20, 2025, as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day by presenting a proclamation to Moreno Valley College.
Mayor Pro Tem Elena Baca-Santa Cruz, also an employee of the Riverside Community College District, highlighted the shared commitment to honoring Dr. King's vision of equality and justice.
Beyond these commemorative events, Moreno Valley emphasizes civic participation and community building through initiatives like the Beautify MoVal Community Day of Service.
Scheduled for October 11, 2025, this event invites residents, businesses, and community groups to collaborate in enhancing local parks.
Mayor Ulises Cabrera stated, "Volunteerism is proof of commitment. When our residents lend a helping hand at an event like our Community Day of Service, it shows pride in our City, a desire to make a difference, and a common bond among the diverse, amazing people of Moreno Valley."
These efforts underscore Moreno Valley's dedication to service and leadership, reflecting Dr. King's belief that meaningful change is achieved through everyday participation.
By engaging in local volunteering and fostering shared progress, the Moreno Valley community continues to build a stronger, more connected city. |
